Made Possible by Volunteers and Sponsors
The Outer Banks community has embraced the annual Surfing for Autism event and has helped it grow into what it has become today. Numerous volunteers from different backgrounds come together to make sure the event runs in a safe and efficient manner. Experienced special needs professionals, surfing instructors, sponsors, and other various volunteers make this event possible. Not only do these volunteers and sponsors make the event possible, but they also help spread autism awareness throughout the community and beyond.
The event is held annually at Jennette’s Pier. The pier and its facilities were rebuilt in 2011. The state owned pier is run by the North Carolina Aquarium and is simply a top-notch location. With a state-of-the-art pier house, bath house, ample parking, and 1,000 foot long fishing pier, the facility is a great place for just about any event imaginable.
