Let’s go…golf cart riding! Part of the fun and fascination vacationing on the Outer Banks is the cruising experience of the OBX salty air and sea breezes. Some people roll their windows down or open their sunroofs, BUT for the full experience while creating a greener world, a lot more have now embraced cruising in an electric rental golf cart. Whether it is running to the fitness center, shuttling gear and your family to the beach access, or exploring the community where you are staying, renting an electric golf cart is the perfect solution.
Several OBX communities require standard (not street legal) golf carts. A few of these golf cart friendly communities are Pirate’s Cove in Nags Head, The Currituck Club in Corolla and Whalehead Community Beach in Corolla. We’ve taken a closer look at each of them to share the details you need to know.
Pirate’s Cove is a gated, family-friendly community with a wide variety of luxury vacation rentals nestled on Roanoke Island.
Pirate’s Cove allows standard golf carts, LSV (street-legal) golf carts and side-by-sides as well. Ocean Atlantic Rentals rents Club Car brand lifted and non-lifted standard community golf carts along with street legal LSV golf carts and provides FREE delivery and pickup to Pirate’s Cove. When we deliver a golf cart to Pirate’s Cove, we are obligated to also deliver a specific packet from Pirate’s Cove. Please review the packet before you begin using your golf cart rental.
Once you have your rental golf cart, you must register your cart with Pirate’s Cove. Renters are asked by Pirate’s Cove to take your golf cart to the guard house at the entrance gate to register. Registering is a $20 cash deposit (no cards are accepted) and you will receive a tag with your unit # to display on the cart.

From there you’re ready to drive anywhere on the community. Some of these locations are Blue Water Restaurant, the fitness center, pool, marina, playground and tennis courts. Golf carts are allowed to park in normal parking spaces like a vehicle. Remember to follow the posted speed limit signs and look for speed bumps throughout the community to reduce speeding. Also, be mindful of children and other renters walking dogs.
When your stay is done, return your tag with your unit number to the guard at the entrance and they will return your full $20 registration fee.

The Currituck Club is premier gated community in Corolla. The Currituck Club is a unique community on the OBX because of its wide variety of homes and amenities covering 500+ acres, surrounding an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse.
The Currituck Club is strictly standard golf carts only. LSV / low speed vehicles / street legal golf carts are NOT allowed in The Currituck Club. Ocean Atlantic Rentals rents lifted and non-lifted standard Club Car brand golf carts and provides FREE delivery and pickup to The Currituck Club.
Once you have your rental golf cart, there are a few things you need to know for your rental. Golf carts are allowed the go the Harris Teeter adjacent to The Currituck Club. The south gate will take you to the beach access. For those staying at condos in The Currituck Club there are golf cart charging lots are available at Windswept Ridge. All main roads in the community are posted at 20mph; golf carts are asked to pull over and give right of way to vehicles that come behind them.
This is a golf cart friendly community so all are encouraged to drive their standard golf carts to the trolley stops, fitness center, community pools, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, volleyball court, shuffleboard court, and bocce ball court. Recreational carts are NOT allowed on the golf course and course’s cart path. Golf carts are allowed to park in normal parking spaces like a vehicle. Remember to follow the posted speed limit and be mindful of children.

WHALEHEAD COMMUNITY BEACH
Whalehead Community Beach is a community of rental homes located in Corolla that are ideal for golf cart use. Shopping, the beach and all sorts of fun are just moments away and an electric golf cart is your best answer.
Whalehead Community Beach allows standard golf carts which saves you money versus renting an LSV (low-speed vehicle) or street legal golf cart. Ocean Atlantic Rentals rents lifted and non-lifted standard Club Car brand golf carts and provides FREE delivery and pickup to those staying at Whalehead Community Beach.
Once you have your rental golf cart, there are a few things you need to know for your rental. Golf carts are able to access the Food Lion parking lot by Albacore Street. Carts can cross the main road at the light to access the shops and restaurants at Timbuck II.
Many use their golf cart here to shuttle gear and their family back and forth to the beach access. Community carts can park at the public parking lots on Whalehead Drive to access the beach. Gravel parking lots are located at Shad Street, Sturgeon Beach Access, Bonito and Sailfish Public Access. Carts and regular vehicles share parking in these lots.
