Run the Outer Banks: Flying Pirate Half Marathon & First Flight 5k

The Outer Banks 7th Annual Flying Pirate Half Marathon and First Flight 5k are quickly approaching! This is a fun weekend event for all ages and all levels of running ability, with the option to sign up for a 1-mile Fun Run, the 5k, or the half marathon.

As a series sponsor for all Outer Banks Sporting Events (OBSE), Ocean Atlantic Rentals is proud to support the Flying Pirate races this year, which will be held April 16 & 17. Both races award finishers with a medal. If you sign up for the Double Dare Challenge (run the half marathon and the 5k), you will receive the “Double Dare Challenger” medal! There will be awesome event swag and t-shirts for participants, along with a 2 day expo event and a post-race party following the half marathon!

The Flying Pirate Half Marathon is a beautiful course that covers the first half of the Outer Banks Marathon Course. The race starts on the Woods Road in Kitty Hawk, a flat winding road with lush tree coverage. As you make your way through Moore Shore Road onto Bay Drive you will have great views of the sound and soon find yourself in a residential neighborhood. Bay Drive runs right along the sound front and you will be getting amazing views of the water with every home you pass. You will then make your way towards the Wright Memorial, where you will circle the monument and continue on the road towards Nags Head Woods Nature Preserve. Once you make it into Nags Head Woods, you will be trail running on a mulched dirt road in a beautiful maritime forest. The race comes to an end at the YMCA in Nags Head which borders Pirates Quay – the after-party venue!

There is still time to register for all events. The current pricing is $95 for the half marathon, $140 for the Double Dare challenge, and $40 for the 5k. The Pirate Fun Run (approximately one mile) is $10, no event shirt is given but a bib and medal are included. The Fun Run will be held right after the 5k on Saturday.

Ocean Atlantic Rentals is proud to be a Series Sponsor for the Flying Pirate Half Marathon and all other OBSE events. For more local Outer Banks information, check out our blog.
