The Outer Banks Festival Season is HERE!

The energy has shifted direction here on the Outer Banks now that autumn has officially arrived, and one of the best parts about this fresh yet familiar movement is the return of FESTIVAL SEASON! No matter where you are on the OBX it’s not hard to find an exciting celebration planned for this time of year! Whether it’s rejoicing the area’s rich seafood tradition, strong sense of community, or musical and artistic excellence, for example, festivals abound here for countless reasons! Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival

Wings Over Water Wildlife Festival is one of the nation’s most prominent wildlife festivals. Taking place this year from Tuesday, Oct. 20 to Sunday, Oct. 25, the 19th annual celebration will include more than 100 birding, paddling, photography, art, and nature tours, trips and programs spread out across the entire area.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery, enhance your craft, feed your passion for the outdoors, and learn about the unique landscape of the Outer Banks at this festival – a part of the Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society’s fundraising efforts. For the first time ever the festival will also feature an encore weekend, taking place from Dec. 4 to Dec. 6 to allow viewers the opportunity to see larger flocks of migratory birds as well as varied types of waterfowl.

Outer Banks Fall Restaurant Week

The much-anticipated Outer Banks Restaurant Week takes place in the fall and in the spring every year. Beginning on Friday, Oct. 30 and continuing until Nov. 7, this year’s fall selection will feature more than 20 local restaurants offering pre-selected 3-course meals to highlight their specialties in this tasty tradition.

Participating restaurants for the 2015 fall event include: The Good Life Eatery in Kitty Hawk, The Colington Café in Kill Devil Hills, the SaltBox Café in Kill Devil Hills, and Owens’ Restaurant in Nags Head, to name a few. Get out there and discover some of the best local fare the Outer Banks has to offer during this exciting festival week!

Blackbeard’s Pirate Jamboree

Blackbeard’s Pirate Jamboree is a swashbuckling good time and a great way to celebrate Halloween on Ocracoke Island this year. The festival intends to commemorate the pirate heritage of the area and focuses on the maritime history of both Ocracoke and Hatteras Island. The event will take place from Oct. 30 to Nov. 1 and includes a treasure hunt, different types of pirate activities, and opportunities to shop for items such as pirate-themed crafts, as well.

Blackbeard’s Pirate Crew will make an appearance in the village, performing an exciting three-ship battle.
