Spring is finally here and we couldn’t be more excited for the longer days, warmer sun, and the upcoming activities on the Outer Banks. Sign up for one of our local runs, or get tickets to a local event – there are activities for everyone.
Easter Egg-stravaganza at Elizabethan Gardens
Visit the Elizabethan Gardens for their annual Easter celebration on April 15th. It is known as “the largest egg scavenger hunt on the beach with thousands of eggs!” The kids will love this event with egg spoon races, musical acts, crafts, egg roll race, special prizes, and more.
Flying Pirate Half Marathon, 5k and Fun Run
On April 21-23, runners take the stage to tackle the Outer Banks Flying Pirate Half Marathon. This race covers the first half of the Outer Banks Marathon course, starting in Kitty Hawk and ending in Nags Head with a post-race Pirate Jamboree party. If a half marathon isn’t quite your style, you can sign up for the 5k, or both! And there is a Fun Run for the kids, held immediately after the 5k race. We are proud to sponsor this non-profit event that benefits the Outer Banks Relief Foundation and the Dare Education Foundation.
Dare County Kidsfest
This free annual event is held on May 12 at Roanoke Island Festival Park for kids 5 and under. Bring your kids for face painting, ice cream, bubbles, snowballs, arts & craft projects, music, photo booth, fire truck and more. Lasting from 9:30am-12:30pm, take a picnic lunch and have a fun-filled day with the little ones!
Nags Head Woods 5k
A classic Outer Banks event, the Nags Head Woods 5k is celebrating its 34th anniversary this year. Held on Saturday, May 13th, the course is out-and-back running through the woods on Old Nags Head Woods Road. There is a Fun Run before the 5k, and if you need a little extra challenge consider participating in the 5k Double by running the route at 7am, and then again during the official race at 8am! There’s a post-race party after with awards and trophy presentations. And you can opt to join in on the post-race beach party and buffet at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Nags Head at 12pm. Mustang Spring Jam
A precursor to the Mustang Music Festival held in the fall, the Mustang Spring Jam is the smaller version held at Mike Dianna’s Grill Room in Corolla. This year’s bands include Big Something, The London Souls, Urban Soil, Formula, Zack Mexico, The Ramble, and Mustang Outreach student bands. The event is held on May 21, and tickets are $15 in advance.
