Our first post, Top Spots to Launch a Kayak on the Outer Banks, received a lot of positive responses and excitement from those interested in kayaking on the Outer Banks. In that post, we covered some top spots to kayak, from Corolla to Nags Head. For those that would like to take their kayaking adventure further south, we’ve come up with a list of top spots from Pea Island to Ocracoke Island. Happy paddling!
S-Curves – North of Rodanthe
For many years, the S-Curves has been a popular location for surfers. Located close to Rodanthe, this is a popular site visited on the Outer Banks for a unique beach experience. Go kayaking in the Atlantic Ocean and enjoy the exciting waves during a trip to the southern beaches.
Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge
15440 N.C. Hwy. 12, Rodanthe, N.C. 27968 – Parking spots are available by the refuge site and allow for launching kayaks.
As you head down to the southern beaches of the Outer Banks, you will come across the Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge. Pea Island is a beautiful area to enjoy kayaking and other recreational activities on the Outer Banks. It is home to more than 365 species of birds and features a variety of other wildlife to see as you enjoy a kayaking adventure on the Outer Banks. The refuge is open from sunrise to sunset, so have a relaxing day kayaking while being surrounding by the beautiful nature in Pea Island.
Canadian Hole
On the soundside of N.C. Hwy. 12, in between the villages of Avon and Buxton.
Canadian Hole is one of the most popular spots on the East Coast for watersports such as kiteboarding. The area includes restrooms and showers that are open seasonally, and it also includes plenty of parking spaces open throughout the year. Enjoy a day kayaking on the gorgeous waters of the Pamlico Sound at a local favorite.
Ocracoke Island
Launch to the right side of the Ocracoke Island Visitor Center.
If you’re making a trip to Ocracoke Island, a kayaking adventure would be great to enjoy during your stay. Check out Silver Lake and Ocracoke Village while seeing the wonderful wildlife and beautiful sights to be found in Ocracoke Island. This is a great way to relax while on a trip to the Outer Banks.
At Ocean Atlantic Rentals, we rent five different types of kayaks, and we’d love to help you get set up for your kayaking adventure. All of our kayak rentals come with a paddle and life jacket! We have three “sit-inside” kayaks (perfect for soundside kayaking), including the Old Town Single Kayak, the Old Town Double Kayak, and the Prowler 13’ Angler Kayak, if you chose to try your hand at fishing from a kayak. For kayaking in the ocean, we rent the single ocean kayak and the double ocean kayak.
